Transitioning to Forge

You may not have seen any new features in while, but the Clockwork development team is still hard at work.

The Atlassian ecosystem, including Marketplace apps like Clockwork, is evolving. Atlassian has introduced a new platform called Forge, which will replace the current Connect platform by the end of 2026. Forge includes compute and storage features so Marketplace apps can be hosted entirely on Atlassian infrastructure, enhancing integrations and security. App developers, including HeroCoders, are required to move their apps to the new Forge platform. Our team has been hard at work behind the scenes to transition Clockwork to Forge.

What’s Changing and Why It Matters

This shift brings exciting opportunities for the future of our apps, but also some short-term challenges we want to be transparent about. As longtime Marketplace Partners, we’re working hard to make this transition as smooth as possible.

The Benefits

Once complete, the move to Forge will mean:

  • Stronger integrations – Forge offers new ways for us to build tighter, smarter integrations with Atlassian products, laying the foundation for improved app experiences in the future.

  • Built on Atlassian infrastructure – Forge apps run directly on Atlassian’s systems, allowing for improved security, as well as simplified compliance and procurement for our customers.

The Challenges

In the mean time:

  • The transition takes time – While the shift to Forge is largely invisible to you, it takes significant time and effort on the part of our developers. This is resulting in a delay in the release of new Clockwork features. Rest assured that once we turn the corner on this transition, our team will again be focused on delivery exciting new features from the Clockwork product backlog.

  • Feature differences – Some existing features may need to be adapted (or even reimagined) for Forge. At the same time, Forge offers new and exciting extensibility options.

  • New cost model: Forge introduces infrastructure costs for compute and storage. To manage this, we may need to adjust how resource-intensive features are delivered.

What Do You Need to Do

While most of this shift happens behind the scenes, there are a few things you can do to ensure optimal performance for Clockwork (and other Marketplace apps):

  • Check for Updates – As we progress through this transition, you may need to manually update the app to ensure your team is using the latest version. To update the app:

  1. Navigate to admin.atlassian.com.

  2. Select the appropriate Organization.

  3. Click on the menu to the right of the appropriate Product/App (in this case, Jira) and select Manage app.

  4. Click on Connected apps from the left nav bar.

  5. Check to see if there is an UPDATE flag for Clockwork. If there is, click View app details.

  6. Then click the Update button in the upper right corner.

  • Be Patient – Forge is still evolving as a platform and Marketplace app developers have to negotiate ongoing changes as they work to migrate their apps. New release may take longer than anticipated. Also, you may encounter changes to feature names and navigation as Atlassian continues to develop the platform.

HeroCoders is committed to delivering the best possible experience throughout this transition. We appreciate your patience, and your trust in us and our apps. If you have any questions or want to understand more about what this means for you, please reach out to our support team.
